MatrixFlightHD – information!

This is an information for all MatrixFlightHD users,
to use all functions of MatrixFlightHD you need a Drone-Firmware < 1.5 (smaller than 1.5)

parrot makes significant changes in there API with this firmware release,
I (sadly) can’t tell when (or if) I have the time to make MatrixFlightHD full compatible
to this newer API .

Some Friends and I we are still using Drone-Firmware 1.4.7, so
MatrixFlightHD stays in App-Store.

For me the “old” Firmware works very well, I never had this mysterious “fly-away-syndrome”,
that some people describes in our german board, so please understand that some times
I respect the words of a bold man “never touch a running system”

If you have a firmware > 1.5 (and whant to use all functions of MatrixFlightHD)
I just can recommend the Free FW Manager from Max Bäumle

newTime – V1.0 – im App Store!

Warum sind die dinge wie sie sind?

Bei den Aufbau unserer Uhr / Kalender frage ich mich das regelmässig.
Planeten haben meist zwei relativ konstante Eigenschaften,
sie rotieren um sich selbst und um ein Zentralgestirn, das ergibt Tage und Jahre.
Aber warum ist der Tag in Abschnitte 24 / 60 / 60 eingeteilt,
und warum sind die Monate nicht alle gleich lang?
das erschwert Zeitberechnungen erheblich!
Der überwiegende teil der Menschheit rechnet im Dezimalsystem.

newTime zeigt Jahre und Tage Dezimal an, ein Beispiel zum Verständnis:

0.250 = 06:00h
0.500 = 12:00h
0.750 = 18:00h

Der Vorkommaanteil zeigt jeweils Tage oder Jahre seit Referenzdatum.

Dienstliche belange fordern oft noch eine zusätzliche Einteilung in Arbeits-Schichten,
deshalb hat newTime auch einen Schichtzähler. (schichten seit Referenz Datum)

für den Schichtzähler ist das Referenz Datum frei wählbar.
die Uhr hat zwei wählbahre Nullpunkte (REF-datum):

UNIX – 01.01.1970
JESUS (wie der gregorianische Kalender)

Make Movie from Images

MatrixFlightHD saves up to 10 images/sec to iPad-App/Documents folder:
( in fastGrabbingMode ( ipad – settings ) )
I think the easy way to convert the images to a movie is FFMPEG:

ffmpeg -r 10 -f image2 -i img-%06d.jpg -r 25 -b 1024k movie.mpg

the first “-r 10″ in this case is the source frame rate ( 0.1s = 10 fps)

the shellscript (rename to .sh on linux or .command on mac, and chmod):

CareFree – How it Works – How To Use

How it Works:

MatrixFlightHD gets the drone-angle, from the gyro of the drone.(continuously)

Normally when you start pushing the left control button of MatrixFlightHD, the accelerometer of the iPad become active,
and it will send fly-commands (velocity and direction) to the drone, depending on the iPad tilt angel.

In CareFree mode the direction-value will be converted depending on the drone angle (from drone gyro).

How to Use (the step by step guide):

at start CareFree should be off! (not necessarily, but for explanation)
take off
stand behind your drone,
you should look in the same direction as your drone
switch CareFree on
look at the arrow in the cordinates-frame, or the numeric value of B-Axis
push “B=0″ now the arrow should point forward
try normal controls with iPad as in normal mode (push left button and tilt iPad) the movement should be like normal
now rotate drone as usually (the right button) (e.g. 90 degree to left)
try again flight controls with the left button, as usually
when drone looks left and you tilt iPad to front, the drone will also fly forward (not left)!

in CareFree mode it is just like in normal mode when you release all buttons, all commands will be stopped, and the drone should stay in position

my hands-on experience has shown that depending on flight situation and environment, the gyro value from drone will drift away more or less, it is necessary to reset front offset “B=0″ about all 2-5 minutes

The new version is now available !

improvements to V1.0.23:

cool new “CareFree” control mode (front stays front)

allows you to fly in one direction while rotating the drone.
Use the [B=0] button to set new front offset”

The image capture part is completely rewritten, there are now 2 different modes:

The [GRP] button always saves to “Photos”
additional fast grabbing mode in iPad-Settings,
saves up to 10 fps to /Documents, you can access this via iTunes

more LED animations (now the button text labels are correct)
play drone-annimations

use the two TURNAROUND animations carefully, they need a free place!
the other animations do not need nutch space, my favorite animation is the SHAKE, a kind of cute
